OSU Women in Science (WiS) is a group dedicated to providing resources to womxn in the science fields at Oregon State. In order to showcase leading womxn in science from outside the OSU community, WiS hosts an annual "Outside the Lab" invited speaker nominated by our members. Our speakers incorporate their scientific skills into various professions including policy, journalism, science writing, industry, community engagement, and non-profit organizations. The event is centered around the invited speaker seminar in which she discusses aspects of her scientific career beyond her research, including experience pursuing a career as a woman in a STEM-related field. The seminar consists of an hour-long lecture followed by a stand-up reception in which the audience can engage with the speaker as well as other seminar attendees. OSU WiS invites all OSU students, staff and faculty, as well as members of the surrounding community.  This event provides opportunities to ask the invited speaker directed questions about her career path and thoughts on working within and outside of academia.

This year, we will be hosting Dr. Geraldine Richmond, the Presidential Chair in Science and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oregon. Please join us for a seminar and catered reception to learn from Dr. Richmond and expand networking opportunities. In addition to her research duties, Dr. Richmond has held many leadership roles in the scientific community, working with agencies such as the National Science Board and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
