This event is part of Stepping Into Each Other’s Shoes: A One-Day Literary Festival, sponsored by OSU-Cascades Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing and Deschutes Public Library.

Workshop is from 4-6 p.m.; Reception begins at 6 p.m.

In 2012, Colum McCann founded Narrative 4: a group of writers dedicated to building a community of empathic global citizens who improve the world through the exchange of personal narratives. The mission of Narrative 4 is to build change, hope and radical empathy by asking participants to step into each other’s shoes through the exchange of stories.

In her Words in Action workshop, speaker Ru Freeman will share processes used by Narrative 4. How can we tell stories that transform the world around us? How, through storytelling, can we learn to think and feel deeply about people and conditions that are unfamiliar to our own experience? How, by exchanging our stories with others, can we engage more profoundly with the world?
