 cal Engineering will present “Environmental Change Drives Global Soil El
 ement Fluxes” on Wednesday\, January 23\, from noon to 1 p.m. in STAG 11
 1. \n\nAbout Dr. Jones: \n\nI have always had a passion for exploring the 
 natural world\, and as a child\, I could often be found chasing animals\, 
 fishing\, or building dams and bridges across the small creeks throughout 
 northern Nevada. As an adult\, I pretty much do the same thing. It is ther
 efore not surprising that I pursued a career in science and engineering. I
 n order to understand the type of research I do\, it is important to know 
 a bit about my background. I’ve studied ecology\, hydrology/hydraulics\,
  environmental chemistry/engineering\, and inorganic geochemistry. While t
 hese fields seem disparate\, environmental problems do not fit nicely into
  discrete boxes or individual packages. There are many problems that simpl
 y cannot be solved with the tools provided by a single discipline\, an eac
 h provides different tools and ways of thinking about ecosystem health. As
  an engineer\, I find it incredibly useful to draw on to tools used in eco
 logy and chemistry\, and vice versa. Therefore\, my interests focus on und
 erstanding how ecosystem health is driven by complex interactions between 
 biological\, chemical\, and physical processes.\n\nThe seminar is free and
  open to the public. \nWe hope to see you there!
