American Nuclear Society hosts a virtual info session with Owen Ramsey, thermo-hydraulics engineer at X-energy.
Owen is from Hood River, OR. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering at Oregon State. He also participated in two internships via the MECOP program through Oregon State. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, biking, and exploring Washington, DC.

Our Engineers & Scientists
Developing state-of-the-art, high technology solutions for reactors and fuel requires both traditional nuclear and non-traditional engineering skills and experience. We’re looking for capabilities in solution development, multi-disciplinary analysis, systems engineering, facility design, test planning, logistics, management, and system integration.
X-energy is designing a high-temperature (helium-cooled) pebble-bed reactor called the XE-100. It is also designing a high-temperature (helium-cooled) microreactor called XENITH. The first deployment of X-energy’s XE-100 will provide superheated steam and electricity to a large chemical manufacturer (Dow Chemical) at one of their chemical facilities in Seadrift, TX. The main office of X-energy is in Rockville, MD. Many of its employees live in Washington, DC. X-energy also has a subsidiary that is called TRISO-X (located in Oak Ridge, TN), which designs and fabricates the nuclear fuel that X-energy’s reactors (as well as other pebble-bed reactors) will use.
X-energy is hiring for a variety of experience levels (including fresh graduates) on their careers page. X-energy’s main office, as well as the TRISO-X office, will hire interns for summer 2026 (internship opportunities posted on the careers page sometime this fall). X-energy hires many engineering disciplines (nuclear and non-nuclear) such as:
- Nuclear engineering and radiation health physics
- Mechanical and industrial engineering
- Energy systems, materials science, and robotics
- Chemical engineering
- Civil and architectural engineering
- Computer science and electrical and computer engineering

X-energy was founded by successful entrepreneur Kam Ghaffarian, whose companies include Axiom Space, selected by NASA to build a replacement for the International Space Station and Intuitive Machines, which is building the next spacecraft that will land on the moon in 2021.
