Dr. Stuart Sarbacker, Professor of Comparative Religion and Indian Philosophy, will discuss the intimate relationship between the mind-body disciplines of Hindu and Buddhist systems of yoga and the use of psychoactive substances in the Indic religious context, with an eye to the ways in which modern cosmopolitan forms of yoga have intersected with the use of psychoactive and psychedelic substances, such as cannabis and ayahuasca.
